Members and guests of the Canadian Club of Calgary were honoured to receive Her Honour the Lieutenant Governor and His Honour Doug Mitchell for our May, 2017 luncheon. 60 people joined us for one of 2017s most successful events to-date. Their Honours were greeted at the Ranchmen’s Club by our President, Richard Hehr and board member Ivanka Ruseska. They were accompanied by Aide de Camp Peter Boyle. In addition to Their Honours, the Canadian Club was pleased to welcome our Ranchmen’s Club sponsor, Darryl Raymaker, past speaker Ken LaPointe, Mount Royal University President David Docherty and David Khan, candidate for the leadership of the Alberta Liberal Party to the event. Her Honour spoke to the club in the context of Canada’s 150th birthday which is drawing near. She provided an overview of the significant contributions of Canadians to the innovation agenda and to advances in medical care. Her Honour introduced Dr. Reed Ferber of the University of Calgary as an example of innovation in our own backyard. Dr. Ferber spoke about his biomechanical research and how new methodologies and equipment allow his team to offer precise rehab prescriptions for runners and those facing mobility impairments. The Canadian Club congratulated him on his recent appointment as a full professor at the University of Calgary. Her Honour was particularly gracious and took questions from the audience related to her Vice Regal duties and posed for photographs prior to her departure. Photos from the event are already posted on the website under the photos tab. Our next speaker with be Brian Burke from the Calgary Flames on June 7, 2017.
