The Canadian Club of Calgary was pleased to host Dr. James Silvius for our Feb, 2017 luncheon. Nearly 50 members and guests welcomed Dr. Silvius to the Ranchmen’s Club. Dr. Silvius addressed the topic Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). His presentation was thorough, thoughtful and compelling. He discussed the origins of changes in the Criminal Code of Canada which resulted in provinces being given one year to adjust to a new reality. He detailed the steps taken by Alberta Health Services to prepare for the new legislation as well as provided an overview of how such requests are handled by a medical team along with precise definitions of who qualifies for MAID under existing legislation. His speech prompted a great deal of discussion and questions from members and guests. This was the first luncheon for the photography pilot program. A professional photographer joined the Canadian Club to chronicle the event. All of the luncheon pictures are available on the photos page of this website.
